I just love it when a family really grasps who they are as a family and runs with that for a session. And when you have all boys, what do they usually love? Superheros. Jumping of things. Getting dirty. Looking cool.
So when a dear friend with 5 boys contacted me asking if I could do such a session, at first I was intimidated. My photography is usually in natural settings, not Gothic City. Soft and organic. Muted colors.... so of course I was up for it! Bring on the boy! We scouted location after location until we found the PERFECT spot.
We had a goal of getting family pictures first before the superhero ones. Rachelle did an amazing job of picking out the outfits. She and I texted back and forth while she was at the store! For the family pictures she had a theme of lightening bolts to tie the superheroness (Cori made up word) into the 'formal' aspect of the pictures. She also wanted to read them a comic to capture a bit of their daily lives.
Then we added capes and let loose. And this happened:
This is by far one of my favorite sessions I've ever done. Lesson learned. Jump out of your comfort zone whenever you can. And magical things will happen!
