Internet safety is on everyone's mind.
What if you could spend some time with an NCIS investigator and get the behind scoop on the criminal mind?
What if you could spend a few hours getting some tips for Social Media safety for your children?
Lucky for you, I met Heather Ryan, CEO and founder of Safe in the City.
Heather Ryan spent the last 14 years as a Special Agent with NCIS. Perhaps it wasn't exactly like we see on TV, but Heather learned the inside scoop on HOW bad guys pick their victims. Heather has sat in a room with hundreds of criminals, studying them and has first hand experience knowing their motives and techniques. She grew determined to continue her work as an investigator, but to take her message to women, children and families.
Prevent crimes from occurring in the first place.
There wasn't anything on the market quite like her perspective. Other companies teach safety from those who have been victimized, she teaches from a point of power, before anything can happen.
Enter the idea of Safe in the City and Get Safe Academy.
Her website is chocked full of fantastic information ranging from Halloween safety to life on a college campus. Everyone can take her practical online and personal safety advice from 14 years working in narcotics, espionage and sexual assault victims and perpetrators. There are group classes, workshops, tips, on-line classes and self-defense classes for everyone.
With such an important message to share with everyone, how can she balance life as a mom and be Supermom?
This year old business gets balanced between carpool runs, safety workshops and self-defense classes. Working from home gives her the unique advantage of having mom time and a full-time office employment. Maybe her favorite part of the job is wearing her favorite jeans and cozy cardigan sweaters to work?
Like many of us, busy times of the year mean more time working, but no more work calls in the middle of the night!
Beginning a brand new business is difficult, but rewarding. Although finding a daily routine is a struggle (laundry always needs to be done!), she loves being at the bus stop with the kids in the morning and picking them up in the afternoon. She can get some volunteer time at the kids' school and not have to feel frantic and rushed in the evenings.
Part of launching any business is to educate yourself on EVERY aspect of business, including social media. Using LinkedIn, Facebook or blogging all takes effort and A LOT OF TIME.
(Of course, having a great photographs for all those webpages can help. Wink, wink!)
I think she still sounds like Superwoman! How can we as ordinary moms relate to a woman who practically trains the Avengers?
So I asked her some ordinary questions about everyday life:
Q. What do you like to do when you're not being Supermom? I love to go horseback riding.
Q. What is your favorite household product? My favorite household products are Clorox wipes. Seriously, I go through a container a week!
Q. What wardrobe staple can you not live without? I cannot live without my cozy cardigan sweaters.
Q. What was your first job? I was a Social Worker with the Department of Children and Family Services in Cleveland, OH.
Q. What celebrity would you love to have dinner with? Brene Brown. Not sure if she qualifies as a celebrity, but she has inspired me.
Q. What was the last book you read? The Alchemist
I can't say enough about how amazing Heather is. Interested in seeing for yourself?
