This family of seven could hold a master class on how to navigate a photo shoot with a large family!Read More
What's better than photographing a roly-poly baby than a roly-poly baby with her favorite toys?
Baby Evie's mother has the most adorable collection of Disney princess dolls. Word on the street is that Evie just loves these dolls and she can't help but smile when around them. Why not use a family of princesses for your own princess?
Perhaps there is a special lovey your child carries or maybe is wearing those favorite frog boots for the 100th day in a row. Little props like these define who they are and what they love. Try capturing this adorable time of the life in a picture.
Even something as simple as a headband can turn an ordinary moment into a sweet tender memory.
And of course nothing compares to an heirloom baptismal gown. These gowns especially tie generations to each other.
Tiny details, pin tucks and delicate lace are stitched into the garment. I went to school for fashion design back in the day. These beautiful details are full of hard work and I love to photograph them. While the garment will see the end of it's day, the pictures will live on for Evie to show her grandchildren.
Each stage of life offers unique challenges and joys. Sometimes props are a clever way to accentuate the cuteness and freeze for a moment the joys of childhood. This is why I love doing first year sessions. Evie is one of my first year clients and I get to see her every three months. I just love seeing them grow!
Does your little one have a favorite lovey?
Baby, it's COLD outside. More like frigid. Frosty. Wintry. Miserable. Wretched. Wait, wait, wait! This post is getting off to a bad start! Don't get me wrong. I love cold weather... only when there is snow! We should have something pretty in exchange for having to wear so many layers just to get to our cars.
This time of year in St. Louis can be difficult for photographers. There are limited places to go with a family that can provide shelter from the elements. But, from time to time, St. Louis provides a nice day in January to get outside and grab some portraits. This day happened to be one of those glorious Spring days in the heart of winter.
We had chosen to have the portraits of the Arnett family in the Missouri Botanical gardens when their session was scheduled; because we thought the weather would be unpleasant in January. We lucked out! So after taking a few inside we ventured outside to soak up the sun!
The Arnett family is such an endearing family. The kind of family that you feel their quiet support of you. The kind of family everyone should be friends with. Don't you just feel that from the image above?
I tend to prefer the un-posed pictures because I feel that they tell the whole story. The ins and outs of their relationships. You really get to know them. You, my faithful readers, may not know this family, but you can sure see the love!
We were able to travel through the gardens to find some spots that showed us a bit of color during these dreary months of winter. The Missouri Botanical Gardens didn't let us down!
Arnett family, I cannot wait to watch these boys grow. Let's just pray it isn't too fast!
You are totally scared of me right now.
I like to think it is what my brain would look like in material form. I have so much running through my head at any given moment! My house is very minimalistic. Not much happening out there.
But, my office.... is another story.
So let me introduce you to my key players in my office.
My main working machine of my business is my computer. It is a work horse and allows me to get many things done at once. I have the cute picture on there right now for all to see, but when I am actually working it is a much smaller picture of the family. The other portion of my screen is about 1,000,000 tabs open on the internet. The program where I order prints is usually open too.
I'm sure your eyes were captivated by the coffee. I know mine were, but all you health nuts out there take note! I have water there too. Occasionally I'll grab the wrong drink and take a swig of water! ;)
There are many to-do lists and piles. Sometimes I even put the same thing in two piles because I've forgotten that I've written it down already. These lists are all small pieces of paper so when a random "OH I CAN'T FORGET THAT" thought pops into my head, I jot them down.
Then probably forget anyway.
I need a personal assistant. (Really, taking applications!)
Yep, there is headache medicine. It's hiding under the computer. I like to call it headache medicine because that makes me feel young.
But really it is the "aches and pains" medicine.
Long hours in front of the computer does wonders for ones back, wrists and eyes. Then the shoulder pain from lugging around a camera.... I take children's chewable ibuprofen. Keeps me young!
Padre Pio is there in the center of it all. His wise words, "pray, hope and don't worry" encourage me throughout the day.
I am hoping that one day "Pray, Hope and Don't Worry" will become my motto.
Until then I have the Miraculous Medal right there too. If you look closely to the right of the picture of my dad you can see a reliquary. I am being visited by all the Apostles. They are here to make sure I keep on the straight and narrow.
So this is my editing/post office/ headquarters/mission control space mixed with the scattered (but getting organized!) desk of your family photographer.
Curious about the other items in the Secret Lives of Photographers? You can ask about the rest of the random stuff you see in this image in the comments below!
And yes, the really cool pink office chair was how I was able to take this very embarrassing image.
*Not pictured: one of our cute dogs under the desk. :)
Get a load of these guys, they are full of fun and good times! With perfectly coordinating outfits, a great location, and smiles like these you cannot go wrong! Am I right or what?! We were able to get a session in about a month ago over in Belleville at the Our Lady of the Snows Shrine, and man... I need to photograph over there more often! Enough about me! On to the pictures!
These two were a bundle of energy! We got our workout in for sure. It was hot (again!) and these two were not bothered in the least. I love Shaw Nature Reserve, and I don't get to work out there as often as I'd like, so when I was contacted to do a session closer to Eureka, I immediately thought of Shaw!
This little sweetie is growing entirely too fast! It seems like yesterday we were taking her newborn images! I just love her smile, don't you? We were in the Botanical Gardens for this session, and it was horribly humid, but this crew were troopers!
I just have to say, I love love love the name Jane. There is absolutely nothing plain about it! Anyhow, on to the task at hand! This cute 3 month old came to my studio on Watson the other day, and I was so excited to welcome her and her parents into the CNP family. I get to watch this beauty blossom over the next year, and I can't wait to see it happen! I have such cute clients! Enough from me! On to the pictures!!
